Water saving advice for commercial customers

Use the tips below to help minimise water wastage and improve efficiency.

Know your water use – take regular meter readings.  If you notice unusual water usage this could be an indication of a leak.

Consider water reuse if you have high water use processes – we can provide advice and guidance to help identify where you might be able to do this.

Fix leaks as quickly as possible.

Buy water efficient appliances when you are replacing appliances.

Educate staff on water efficiency.

In the kitchen

Consider providing drinking water in water coolers to avoid excess water use from running taps.

Use dishwashers when they are full and choose the most water efficient setting.

In the toilets

Fix dripping taps or leaking toilets.

For older model toilets consider using Cistern Displacement Devices (CDDs) to reduce the amount of water used with each flush.

Install dual flush cisterns and ensure that staff know how to use them to minimise wastage.

For urinals or toilets with automatic flushes make sure they are turned off when not in use or consider using a control device.

Consider installing water saving showerheads in any showers (excluding safety showers).

On your grounds

Use high pressure spray jetters for cleaning, they can use less water than conventional hoses.

Collect and use rainwater to water plants.

Regularly review the amount of water you use to maintain your grounds and for cleaning vehicles and windows.
