Angela Cutler from Albion Eco attended the annual workshop for the Emerging Threats to Water (Wales) group on Tuesday 5th November in Cardiff.
The group is attended by experts from Welsh Government, Natural Resources Wales (NRW), the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), water companies, universities and the wider water industry, and we are looking at emerging chemical threats to environmental and drinking water quality in Wales with the aim of assisting the Welsh Government’s long term policy development.
The meeting on Tuesday was the second annual in-person meeting, and we considered the connection between emerging threats to water and health, introduced by a thought provoking speech from Dr Keith Reid, Deputy Chief Medical Officer (Public Health), and moved on to a workshop focusing on the connection between emerging threats to water and biodiversity lead by Katherine Mullin, Welsh Government.
Having the chance to discuss these issues with colleagues from a range of backgrounds really highlights how inter-linked human health and the natural environment are, and how much work we have to do, but it was also a chance to celebrate the successes, like the quality of drinking water in Wales.
