Albion Eco was pleased to attend The Drinking Water Inspectorate’s (DWI) launch of ‘Drinking Water 2024 – The Chief Inspector’s report for drinking water in Wales’ in Cardiff on 16 July 2025. The report details the key water quality issues in Wales during 2024 including water quality testing, compliance with standards, learning from compliance failures, water quality events, asset health, water safety planning and risk assessment, PFAS, Security and Emergencies (SEMD) and the Network and Information Systems Regulations (2018), as well as an overview of the work carried out by the DWI. There is a separate report for England.
We have maintained our exemplary record of water quality with no compliance failures and no events in 2024, and as a whole the water companies in Wales achieved a 99.97% level of compliance for the year. Marcus Rink, the Chief Inspector of Drinking Water, presented the report and set out the challenges facing water quality and supply in Wales, highlighting issues such as lead, coliforms, discolouration, and taste and odour failures and the importance of tackling the resilience of supplies and sufficiency in times of drought alongside security, particularly cyber security, and new treatment processes.
