Albion Eco was pleased to attend The Drinking Water Inspectorate’s (DWI) launch of ‘Drinking Water 2025 – The Chief Inspector’s report for drinking water in Wales’ in Cardiff on 9 July 2026. The report details the key water quality issues in Wales during 2025 including compliance, water quality events, asset health, and materials in contact with water supply as well as an overview of the work carried out by the DWI. There is a separate report for England which can be found on the DWI’s website.
We have maintained our exemplary record of water quality with no compliance failures and as a whole the water companies in Wales achieved a 99.97% level of compliance for the year. A summary of the loss of supply event experienced on our site in August 2025 is included in the report and Marcus Rink, the Chief Inspector of Drinking Water, noted the balance of maintaining a wholesome supply while also considering the welfare of the end users. Our customer, whose water requirements for welfare facilities were maintained throughout the event commented:

The value of our ongoing relationship was brought home to me last summer when our teams, working in partnership, managed to keep our CDM contractors functioning during the water outage when many other local businesses had to close.
Marcus presented the report and set out the challenges facing water quality and supply in Wales, highlighting issues such as asset health and resilience, iron pipes and solder, resilience of alternative supply arrangements during events and the accuracy of asset records. The report sets out the need for evidence-led management of risk to drive long-term improvement.
