Albion Eco is pleased to be continuing its support to achieve environmental and wellbeing ambitions in Deeside, north Wales.
Partnering with the North Wales Wildlife Trust (NWWT), there has been an increased focus on and investment in their nature reserve at Ddol Uchaf. This site, although now mainly woodland, retains an important area of open meadow and a series of ponds. Since our involvement much work has been undertaken to improve various habitat features, such as retained deadwood, more extensive understorey, and nest boxes for dormice, bats and owls. Monitoring how biodiversity responds is an important ongoing project, particularly with target species such as the Great Crested Newt (whose population remains stable).
Our funding for health and safety tasks has improved access and provided more interpretation signs to promote visitor enjoyment.
We will continue to support the important work of NWWT and are seeking further opportunities with them to promote long term monitoring and to re-establish semi-natural wetlands in the catchment of the River Dee.
If you have any questions about our work, or that of NWWT, then please do contact us using the contact form, quoting NWWT in the subject line.
